The Pastry Book Tag

Before this week ends, I’d like to wrap it with another book tag! This post was supposed to be yesterday but reality happened so…

Two awesome bloggers, Jesse @ Books at Dawn and Jenna @ Reading with Jenna, tagged me to do The Pastry Book Tag. I’ve been warned by Jenna not to look at pictures of them but what can I do? My curiosity got the better of me and now I’m as ravenous as a lion unfed for a week!

CROISSANT: Name a popular book or series that everyone (including you) loves

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. Easy! This has got to be everyone’s standard answer because, hello?!, this is everybody’s childhood. Seriously, this has to be in this generation’s educational curriculum (Oh wait! Studying it will kinda loose the fun so scratch
that!). But anyway, I have all the respect for those who haven’t read the series yet but I just feel fortunate to be a product of its influence!

Macarons: Name a book that was hard to get through but worth it in the end

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. The very reason why I’m not typically after hyped-up books is because I often go opposite with how the crowd rolls. Throne of Glass was a tedious read at first. What with all the obnoxious flirting between Celaena and Dorian, and the incomplete fantasy, it was hard to like it. But I figured I should give it a chance. There’s gotta be a reason why the rave was insane. When the story progressed along, I’m glad it wasn’t a fail!

VOL-AU-VENT: Name a book that you thought will be amazing but fell flat

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. My fixed answer for questions like this is If I Stay by Gayle Forman but I feel like it’s been overused. Fortunately, I have a wide stock of reserves. The moment I finished TFIOS, I was shaking the book for some concealed contents that would somehow change my perspective to it but alas, there’s none. How are people so obsessed at this?!

PAIN-AU-CHOCOLAT: Name a book that you though would be one thing but turned out to be something else

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. WARNING: SHORT STORY FORTHCOMING. 8 or 7 years ago, my friend gifted me with this book. I didn’t it pick it up for the longest time because 1. I still had lingering feelings for Deathly Hallows and 2. I thought it was a Twilight variety. Blame it on the cover! So it was sitting on my bookshelf, gathering all the dust it could, until I’ve extinguished all my TBR books one time when I was living a bum life. And whoa! Clockwork Angel was so good it pumped up all the adrenaline in me! It was like a perfect, patient boyfriend eagerly waiting for me and when I finally got back to it, it didn’t disappoint. Enough drama.

PROFITEROLE: Name a book or series that doesn’t get enough attention

The Summer Series by Jenny Han. I first fell in love with Jenny Han’s writing style because of this series. The story has an annoying (Ugh Belly!) lead and a despiteful love triangle (sibling rivalry, can there be worse?!) but surprisingly, I ended up liking it! It’s spoke so much relevance to immature high school personalities which was completely relatable. This series deserves a spotlight.

CROQUEMBOUCHE: Name a book or series that’s completely complex.

A Song of Ice and Fire Series by George R.R. Martin. Two months later, I’m still halfway done on the first book of the series, Game of Thrones. As much as I wanted to read every installment, my intimidations strike first on GRRM’s complex sentences and tiny font size. How is it more easy to watch it than read it?

NAPOLEON: Name a movie or TV show based off a book that you liked better than the book itself.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner. This happens very rarely and thus, movies like these are often etched on my memory perpetually. James Dashner’s manner of narration picked up very slowly. He was outsmarted by the movie director, Wes Ball. I was expecting a different look on the casting though.

EMPANADA: Name a book that was bittersweet

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. First of all, how is empanada bittersweet?! After a relatively long hiatus, Dan Brown published another controversial book. The book returns Robert Langdon, a character on most of his books. While there’s no doubt, Dan Brown could pull a good mystery/ history/ thriller story, the direction of his plots were too easy to predict. After reading 4 of his book prior to The Lost Symbol, it’s just impossible to miss Dan Brown’s style.

KOLOMPEH: Name a book or series that takes place somewhere other than your own country

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins.
If my parents were like Anna’s and they had to throw me out to the City of Lights to study, I’d take it as a blessing. Taken in Paris, this story just intensified the spark in me to go to France and explore the rest of Europe. Everything there is just picturesque but oftentime beauty comes with a price so that trip will probably be put off until I won the lottery.

PATE-A-CHOUX: Name a food from a book or series that you would like to try

Harry Potter Series.. again!
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Bean, Chocolate Frogs, Butterbeer, Drooble’s Best Blowing Bubble Gum, Fizzing Whizzbees, Toothflossing Stringmints, Ice Mice, Cauldron Cake, Rock Cake (YASSS!), Treacle Tart, No Melt Ice Cream, Pumpkin Pasties, Skiving Snackboxes, Sour Apple Bites,Puking Pastilles and the rest of the food in the Great Hall, Hogsmeade, and Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes!

  1. Thanks for tagging me! I agree with you on Fault in Our Stars and Throne of Glass. I wasn’t going to continue with the ToG series but I watched a booktube video that made me curious and convinced me to go on.

    • No problem! Have you finished the entire Throne of Glass series? I’m still on Heir of Fire. The plot picked up slow at first but eventually it became better so I guess giving it a chance was worthwhile. Thank you for supporting my endeavor against TFIOS haha!

      • Lol. I just read the first ToG book. I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would so I wasn’t going to continue but I’m too curious not to now. The fans of it made me curious again.

  2. I actually don’t have a sweet tooth, but thank you for tagging me, Trisha! All the photos of these exotic pastries still look mighty delish (Kolompeh looks so cool!). Oh gosh, I’m still one of the few that hasn’t joined the Throne of Glass bandwagon yet. One day. And same, I sometimes go against popular opinion with well known books as well.

    • There should be Vegetables/Fruit Book tags to be fair for vegetarians like you, right? 🙂 Tbh, I haven’t tasted some of these yet.. or maybe I did I just didn’t know they were called as such. But you’re right! They look yummy!
ToG is a nice read and he craze is just intense. By the time you get to it, I hope you won’t get disappointed, Summer 😉

      • There should! I would love a fruit book tag but I bet there is one already, haha. After all there’s literally a tag for every type of fandom. And there’s so many foodies out there so… 😛 And haha, so I’ve heard (about ToG). I recently signed up for Netflix and have been marathoning Reign. Worst decision ever. I’m the type of individual that rarely has motion picture entertainment, but once I do, I go crazy and obsessed over that movie/show/drama. Must be the innate fangirl in me. 😛 I haven’t read in two weeks because of this though. I think I’ve fallen into a blogging/reading slump because of my Netflix subscription. Plus, I’ve been scheduling my way through blogging lately, haha. But anyway, I hope so, too (about GoT; this whole comment went way off topic lol)!

      • Right?! Every random thing’s turned into a book tag! Lol. I was thinking of signing up to Netflix myself too but then I’m certain my book blogging and reading “career” will be seriously curtailed haha! Are you watching a korean drama too? I’m craving for some right now after watching all the brutalities of Walking Dead and Game of Thrones haha

      • That’s precisely the reason why I was so hesitant in joining Netflix. It’s not that bad though, then again I don’t usually let my life get consumed by shows (since books already do that). And no! I haven’t seen a Korean drama in ages! I did watch a couple of episodes of The Scholar that Walks at Night of something like that. It was a vampire historical drama, which kind of sounds silly. I liked it but not enough for procrastination material (aka entertainment that keeps me from doing academic/school related stuff), haha. However, I did find it intriguing enough for me too google it on Drama Beans to read the episode recaps (must be the innate reader in me)! And Walking Dead! I’ve heard of that show but I don’t think it’s my cup of tea, lol! Sounds like it’s perfect for the Halloween season though.

      • Haha yes! Well I guess all students are masters of procrastination and stuff like Netflix [and our own weaknesses to temptations] is to be blamed.
That Korean Drama sounds like a good rec. Most Korean dramas recently are about YA/NA love story. Vampire stories are a nice alternative!

  3. I’ve been hearing a lot of negative reviews about the Maze Runner series and when I say negative it’s exceedingly negative! I did like the movie but I’m not really sure if I’m going to read the entire series. I don’t wanna waste my time on something I’m quite sure I wouldn’t like so thanks for confirming my hesitation! And thank you for the tag, Trisha! Lovely answers. 🙂

    • I preferred the movie over the book which is a rare case. It’s probably bc I read Thr Maze Runner after Divergent and I still had a hangover on the latter that I didn’t like it as much. So don’t trust my opinion too much LOL You’re welcome, Giselle! Enjoy 🙂

  4. Thanks for the tag, Trisha! I think you and I think alike; I found myself agreeing with so many of your answers. Namely Throne of Glass, The Fault in Our Stars, and Maze Runner. I liked Throne of Glass, to a point, but it just felt SO long, and unnecessarily so. Have you read Crown of Midnight?

  5. Love the answers and you’re absolutely right, looking at this makes me absolutely ravenous haha!
I have the same opinion re: Throne of Glass, I found the first book such a chore to get through but the rest of the series is fantastic! I actually really enjoy ASOIAF despite the huge hunking volumes because I love GRRM’s writing and how he fleshes out his characters!

    • Thank you Aentee! I love food-related book tags! I’m just glad ToG didn’t disappoint. I’m worried about Queen of Shadows though. Other bloggers say it’s a thick read but still worth the time. I’m slightly intimidated by thick books hence, my feelings towards ASOIAF lol. But if you’re watching GOT, let me hear your thoughts on the next season!! 🙂

  6. I haven’t read the Maze Runner, and not sure I will. I liked the movie a lot though, and plan to see the 2nd! Have you seen it yet?
The reason you didn’t read Clockwork Angel right away is funny! Now that I think about it, it could be mistaken for a Twilight-ish cover. I have a copy of it that I haven’t read yet, as I just started reading TIM, but I’m glad to know that book will be a great read once I get to it!
I was in Paris for a short time, but not nearly long enough to explore France’s many other towns. I really want to go back there and explore one day, if I can ever afford it!
This looks like one delicious tag, btw! (pun intended, lol) 😀

    • Ahh yes, don’t bother with The Maze Runner lol. Yeah it’s my classic example of a book with better movie adaptation.
Right?? TID’s covers are so deceitful! I hope you’ll love TMI though it will slightly demand time and motivation since there are 6 books.
OMG you went to France?! Wow you lucky girl! It’s very expensive but the scenes and stories will be worth it, yeah? 😀

      Liked by 1 person

      • TMI is a long series, lol, but I like analyzing the writing style, so I don’t mind too much. 🙂
It’s very expensive now, but totally worth it! My family was living in Europe at the time, so it was easy for us to drive, about two days, to reach Paris.

        Like

      • Ahh yes the writer in you would scrutinize the writing style up to the least bit.
That’s what I living in Europe. Most of the countries are relatively within reach if you fancy some sightseeing. 😀
